SysAdmins on Tour — New York City (Dec. 1999)
In December of 1999, Steve Mitchell and I flew to Washington D.C. and drove a Blazer full of computer equipment and servers up to New York City. There we met up with Carl Forsythe and Noel Wade who joined us to help setup our new East Coast data center.
New York City (April 2000)
In April, Wim and I traveled to New York to wrap up some of the projects that we had been working on in the Telehouse data center.
Wim left from New York and flew to Ireland and Paris. This was the first time that I stayed at the Marriott
World Trade Center hotel. These pictures show some of the view that I had from my room. The amazing thing about the 9/11 disaster is that this hotel sits right between the two towers. It didn’t collapse at first
in the attack, but this building was destroyed.
I’ve been told by a reliable source (Jeff Routledge) that this globe object that used to be in the center court of the World Trade Center complex has been relocated to Battery Park.
New York City (May 2001)
In May of 2001, Wim and I again traveled to New York to finish the task of pulling our servers out of the Telehouse data center and shipping them to Boston. The photo on the left is a picture of the World Trade Center from Battery Park.
The building on the right is where our data center was located. When the two towers collapsed, this area lost power and the data center was running on diesel generators until they ran out of fuel and couldn’t be restocked because of the “Disaster Zone” that this area had become.
